Chemical treatment programme for disc-tube reverse osmosis (DTRO) plant
Landfill leachate treatment plant
To select the chemical treatment programme of ROptima products for landfill plant DTRO treatment.
About the project
The plant is situated in the landfill territory. The leachate is collected by the trench system from 30 hectares of the landfill territory. This wastewater is highly contaminated by heavy metals and organic pollution, also contains significant amounts of dissolved solids (up to 8000 mg/l). Annual landfill leachate generation is up to 90 000 m3. After collection, this filtrate is treated in the disc-tube reverse osmosis plant. Treated leachate is piped to the wastewater treatment plant, while concentrated is returned to the landfill. Since the dissolved solids in this by-product are concentrated as many as 4 times, the salts precipitate in the landfill, thus not increasing the dissolved solids concentration in newly collected leachate.

Jurby WaterTech International experts conducted an analysis of technical literature, visited the plant, and gathered all necessary data and samples (leachate, concentrate, membranes) for successful water treatment program selection and development. The R&D laboratory ran a series of experiments to test and modify existing and create new formulations of products to match the required targets. According to the obtained results, acidic and alkaline cleaners for membranes cleaning and an antiscalant agent for leachate treatment were selected. Calculations, modifications, a clean-in-place (CIP) programme, and a leachate chemical treatment programme were done. Then the service engineers revisited the plant and performed the trial of membrane cleaning in the facility. The products showed good performance and the test results fitted the client’s requirements. After the CIP procedure, one membrane was taken out and it was seen that the major mineral and organic deposits were removed from it. The client’s needs were fulfilled 100 percent and more. The plant technologist and operator were extremely satisfied with the price and quality of ROptima® products.
