See how Jurbysoft products could clean your heat exchanger

The best way to prove your product works is to show it in a real-life case. One of our clients decided to improve the efficiency of the continuously and intensively used heat exchanger.

The water source is softened water. Besides it is also worth mentioning that the customer did not use any inhibitor.

After evaluating the condition of the equipment, the following problems were found:

  1. Clogged nozzles;

  2. Massive deposits, reduced heat transfer and high amounts of water use;

  3. Circulating water had an electrical conductivity of 40 000 to 100 000 µS/cm;

  4. The blowdown valve was not working;

Here is system data and water parameters before:

The water source at first was hard water. Later they changed to softened water. During the dismantling of the old measuring, the scale of the pipes became even better visible. The deep tubes were especially covered with deep carbonate sediments (see Figure 2), and the DN15 tubes through which the water was supposed to flow were completely blocked (see Figure 1). Coagulated deposits in the blue passage were removed only by applying a strong mechanical force.

1Fig. Coagulated deposits in the transition.
2Fig. Deep tubes covered with coarse carbonate sediments.

After assessing the current situation, it was necessary to wash the system with a dispersing acidic product, and then passivate the surfaces with a passivating alkaline detergent. Otherwise, starting dosing dispersing inhibitor will make pieces of sediment wash away and that can clog the tubes again. Also, washing off carbonate deposits will significantly increase the efficiency of heat transfer and save electricity. It is possible that it will not even be necessary to circulate water in the winter period.

The proper product would allow to enhance heat transfer, lower energy consumption, to lower water consumption for all types of metal.

Results:

The system had galvanized metal surface. For this reason, JurbySoft® DS2 detergent was used, which contains weak organic and inorganic acids, corrosion inhibitors, dispersants, polymers, and surfactants. Itwas created specifically for washing non-ferrous metal surfaces. Since zinc is a non-ferrous metal, the product was perfect for this case. Corrosion inhibitors in JurbySoft® DS2 provide greater protection than washing with only weak acids, while polymers bind and disperse insoluble calcium and magnesium deposits and remove them from the system by draining the washing solution. Therefore, in need of a stronger dispersing effect JurbySoft® DS2 plus was used at the very start with a more concentrated formula.

After acid washing, the system must be drained and rinsed with water. After that, mandatory washing with alkaline detergent JurbySoft® DG2 should be done to passivate metal surfaces (cover a protective film).

The degree of dilution depends on the thickness of the deposits, their density, and the temperature of the working solution. The average duration of washing and passivation is 3 days.

 JurbySoft® DG2 and JurbySoft® DS2/DS2plus products are designed for chemical cleaning of surfaces of heat exchange equipment in steam boilers, heating, and cooling systems. For more information about our other cleaners, please visit our Boiler Water Treatment section or contact us by e-mail.
